Lora Perry earned her Masters degree in Business Education from New Hampshire College, and completed certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in 2004. She and her husband Steve are the parents of twin boys, who were diagnosed as having autism in 1995. In 1999, exhausting all local resources to help care for and educate their sons, Perry and her husband faced the recommendation by professionals that they place their children in residential care in another state. The Perrys worked to keep their sons at home, consequently founding the Merrymeeting Center for Child Development (MCCD).
Today, Providences Merrymeeting Center is a school and treatment center specializing in science-based interventions for children with autism, and both of Perry's sons enjoy the loving home of their family. One child is enrolled in public school, and the other child attends MCCD.
Perry has been a member of numerous initiatives focusing on improving systems of care and education for children and families in Maine. From 1998 to 2000 she served on the MADSEC (Maine Administrators of Services for Children with Disabilities) Autism Task Force, and was co-author of the Report of the MADSEC Autism Task Force (2000).
Perry continues to advocate for individuals with autism through her writing and public speaking, emphasizing ethical, efficacy and cost/benefit issues. Perry is past President of the Association for Science in Autism Treatment, editor of the newsletter Science in Autism Treatment , and author of - 'Never, Ever Give Up', in the book Making a Difference (Pro-Ed, 2001).
